As a busy mom, it can sometimes seem like you can't even find five minutes of free time for yourself, and you may find that you are letting things go because you are busy or tired. This may include eating healthy and exercising. After all, who has time to exercise when you are chasing after kids all day, right? Well, there are ways that you can keep exercise in your daily routine, even if you don't have a lot of time to spare. Here are eight tips that can help.
1. Quick Workouts
Just because you don't have time to go to the gym for a full workout, it doesn't mean you can't fit in a couple of quick workouts during the day at home. Even doing 5-10 minutes of exercise every hour is going to help. When you have a few minutes, do some situps or other stationary exercises. Or, do a quick cardio routine in 15 minutes.
2. Work Out with the Kids
Kids need exercise too, so why not get them involved with your workouts? Go outside and play a fast-paced game of tag, soccer, basketball, etc. You would be surprised at how many calories being active with your kids can burn, and it's good for all of you. It will also help your kids stay fit, and they will just think that they are playing.
3. Go Online
You can save time, and money, by working out at home. Go online and check out some of the many YouTube workout videos, and find one that best suits your workout and scheduling needs. There is something for everyone, no matter what your fitness level is.
4. Go on Fitness Play Dates
If you know other mothers who want to work out, arrange to get together so the kids can have play dates, and you can have fitness play dates. This is an awesome way to stay active, stay healthy, have fun, and socialize with your friends. Another option is to drop the kids off at school, and then have workout dates that are free of kids.
5. Set a Schedule
If you sit down and take a look at your actual schedule, you may find that you have a lot more free time than you realize. For instance, you may spend a bit of time socializing online each day. Stop doing this, and use that time to exercise. Your body will thank you for it.
6. Find the Right Gym
There are many gyms that will offer daycare services for an extra fee, and some even include daycare in their regular fees so you don't have to pay any extra. You can get your workout in without having to worry that there is no one watching the little ones.
7. Enjoy the Playground
When you take the kids to the playground, don't just sit there and watch them play. Get active yourself. You can walk around while they are playing, or even join in on the fun and get on the jungle gym yourself. This is also a great way to enjoy some family bonding time with the kids.
8. Fix Up the Yard
If you have a lawn, mow it (and don't use a ride-on mower). Rake leaves, pull weeds, plant flowers, etc. When you are gardening, you can burn a lot of calories, and you are also getting much-needed sunshine and fresh air. Bring the kids outside with you, and let them help where they can (give them flower seeds to plant and they will play quietly while you get other stuff done).
